A sad puppy waits for it's forever home, while hoping that someone will choose to make a difference.
Yesterday we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. If you are as plugged in to social media as No Kill Harford is, undoubtedly you saw a ton of quotes and inspirational messages attributed to Dr. Matin Luther King Jr. One of Dr. Kings quotes struck a cord with us more than all others:
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
For too many years healthy, adoptable dogs & cats have been killed in shelters all over the United States. According to a nationwide survey by the Associated Press (AP) that 71% of pet owners feel that it should be illegal for shelters to kill animals unless they are too sick to be treated or too aggressive to be adopted. How do we bridge the gap between the killing of healthy, adoptable pets and the 71% of us that want to see that stopped? We bridge that gap together, by standing up and saying no more. Together, we can make a difference: first in our own community, then in the communities of our families and friend, and finally across the county. If we choose to stand together as a community and not remain silent, a No Kill Harford is possible.
Please join us next week at our Stand Up for Harford Pets event to break the silence. Lets give healthy, adoptable pets a voice and work together to save lives.
